Espresso is stronger.
Premium roast is probably weaker, but smoother.

Strength is in how it’s brewed, espresso is stronger than coffee because of the brewing. I use espresso blends for both coffee and espresso (completely different flavor).
It will be the kind of beans they use (many espresso blends include Robusto beans – more caffeine & more bitter). Premium hopefully uses only Arabica beans for a milder taste.
So: If it uses Robusta – more caffeine
If it uses all Arabica – smoother taste
If brewed normally – mild coffee
If brewed in espresso machine or Moka pot – stronger flavor
You have many ways of making coffee, just from 1 kind of bean.
Singletrack is right. There are many espresso blends that use Robusta beans as a portion of the blend, usually %20 or so. These beans are typically thought of as very low end and lesser quality than Arabica beans. They are used to produce more crema, the sweet foamy top on the espresso. The espresso roast that I purchase is %100 Arabica, no el cheapo robusta beans! Espresso roasts are typically darker, but some are only medium. “Premium” roast isn’t standard so I’m not sure, probably a blend of some sort. The darker and shiner the bean then the darker the roast and more flavor derived from the roasting process is evident. Surprisingly there is more caffeine in lighter roasts than darker ones. Most people are amazed by that.
