You can purchase a burr grinder which has different settings for, espresso, french press and drip or you can just purchase a small grinder, but if you’re going to use it for french press, drip and espresso you will need to know the right grind for the brewing process, where as the burr grinder again has the proper settings for this.

I read somewhere that if you are going to get a Burr Grinder, get a really good one which could cost up to 200 bucks. Or else a good blade grinder will do the trick for 30 dollars. That same person said a bad burr grinder won’t work as good as a good blade grinder, so you may as well save up for a really good Burr. The guys blog is here

I personally use a Cuisinart Blade grinder which works very well. Just get the timing right.
The 2 answers before mine was right about the burr grinder. It offers a consistent grind that can get you the optimum extraction of coffee flavor. And if you really wants to have a good cuppa then I would recommend a Saeco GT1. Not only does it have a good material for burr, it has up to 12 settings for you to choose your ground coarseness.
