You are a better judge of good coffee than you might think. If you like it, it’s a good coffee. If you don’t like it, it’s a bad coffee. Your opinion is the determining factor for yourself.
Personally, I enjoy a darker coffee with a bold flavor, not too bitter.

Taste differs and so does opinions so to that end its all down to personal preference
The region which the beans are from is one good hint, but the best determiner is two words: Arabica or Robusto. Arabica are premium beans, and robusto is secondary in production and typically used in cheaper coffees and instant coffees.
Also, you want to determine which roast is best for you. Lighter roasts are more mild where as dark roasts are heavy and more bitter.
You also have to consider fresh coffee versus coffee which has been sitting – the longer it sits, the more it bitters as it evaporates and the oils released from the beans, bitter.
There really isn’t bad coffee, per say. just really fresh coffee and old coffee. 🙂
people say starbucks has really good coffee, but i dont agree. It always taste burnt, even if it isn’t. but i beleive thats the type of coffee beans they used. I like Donkin Donuts, its milder and well smoother. lol sounds like a cigarette
Well a good coffee is always more exspensive. You always get what you pay for as far as coffee goes. Forget the Folgers, forget the Maxwell House, their garbage coffees. Go for the good stuff like Gevalia, it can be bought online. Always use cream not milk and definately not those powder things, yuk!!
Don’t worry about what other people think. It’s good if you like it.
I do understand what you mean though. About a month ago I tasted the most incredible coffee at a VA Clinic. It wasn’t better.
I wish I knew if it was a brand or how they brewed it.
I would say by the taste and smell.
