Does really good quality coffee taste delicious without cream and sugar?
Question by caltam84: Does really good quality coffee taste delicious without cream and sugar?
I love coffee. But regular black coffee has an unpleasant bitter taste. I add cream and sugar in coffee because it tastes nasty without them and its unpleasant bitterness.
Have you tried Blue Mountain coffee brand imported from Jamaica? How was it? This coffee is hand picked from the high elevations. What other coffee brands do you consider are best qualities?

YES!!! The best coffees do not need cream and sugar because there is no bitterness. Of course you may still enjoy adding cream and/or sugar because you like the flavor with those additions.
What do you think? Answer below!
If you love coffee with cream and sugar you probably need to develop a taste for black coffee. I used to always drink coffee with cream but wanted to cut out the cream for calorie/fat reasons so I just slowly used less and less until I didn’t need it. So my advice would be to cut back on cream and sugar in your coffee until you don’t need it.
I always buy Starbucks coffee. Ask a barista there what they would recommend for you and your preferences. They are very knowledgable and helpful.
You might want to start with a coffee that has a lighter roast. Coffee gets bitter the longer it stays in a ground state, so grinding your own beans will produce a great cup of coffee without bitterness. Buy fresh beans and grind right before you brew a pot. Believe it or not, McDonald’s has great fresh coffee in the mornings. You don’t need to pay exhorbitant prices for beans.
Roasting coffee involves caramelizing the sugar in the beans. As the bean gets darker, the sugar burns creating a bitter brew. Lighter roasts will have more of the origin flavor (subtleties) as well as the sugar.
I like medium (City to City+) roasts. They tend to have more variety & natural sweetness. That’s why I don’t like Starbucks; they only have very dark (burnt) roasts.
I buy green beans from Sweet Maria’s. I like variety, so I buy many & alternate what I roast.
Right now I have:
Ethiopian
Zimbabwean
Several Hawaiian (esp. Kona)
and multiple decaf espresso blends
That & six ways to brew means never getting tired of the experience. It should always be ground right before brewing (I don’t grind till the water’s almost boiling).
If it doesn’t taste good black, it’s probably not a good cup. Like good Scotch, you need to be able to appreciate it.
