Don’t sweat it, I used to make bad coffee all the time until I tried cold brew coffee.
The thing with coffee made with hot water is it can often taste bitter and sour (this is because the hot water draws those chemicals out of the coffee grounds). But if you want the coffee flavor without the bitterness or sourness, try cold brew, it’s also great to do at night to enjoy the next day.
Simple recipe:
Cold Brew Coffee:
1. take 2 tablespoons of your favorite coarse ground coffee
2. add to 1 cup of water.
3. allow to sit overnight.
4. in the morning, strain out the coffee ground and drink coffee with whatever you like.

Ask 10 people how to brew the best coffee and you will get 11 different answers. I have had good sheepherder’s coffee (throw the grounds in the pot and boil them) and great coffee made by other, more sophisticated, methods. I Enjoy the Blue Mountain coffee and the real Mocha coffee (from Yemen; it used to be shipped out through Mocha). I’ve started the day with Turkish-style coffee and love Brazilian-style. However, for everyday use, we drip decaf mixed with 20% chicory.
Mr Smartypants Answered:
You can’t make good coffee out of a can, or pre-ground.You have to buy it as whole bean and grind it yourself just before you make it. There are two kinds of grinders, the ‘whirleyblade’ which is really just a chopper, and a proper burr grinder, which costs a bit more but is better, because it grinds more consistent particles.
Even whole-bean coffee can go stale if it doesn’t sell fast enough. So it depends on how fast it moves through the store.Little coffee roasting companies are better for this because they don’t roast tons of coffee and let it sit around.
Then how do you make the coffee? The ‘Mr Coffee’ big-basket filter coffee maker usually doesn’t get the water hot enough. Your best bet is a French press. You can buy these at Starbucks or any kitchen store. You grind the coffee a little coarser. Make sure its nice and clean.Stir, wait 4 minutes (no less) and plunge. The siphon type of coffeemaker is also good. The filter cone is okay, but you do taste the paper in the filter. Some people pour some hot water through the filter to prepare it before putting the coffee in, and that helps get out the paper taste. Also, for some reason, the ‘natural’ filters, unbleached, taste better.
If you’re making coffee one cup at a time, the Aeropress is also a wonderful thing. I use mine almost every day.
Whatever you use, make sure it’s clean.
Then, of course, just pay attention to what you’re doing. Measure carefully. Make sure the water is just off a boil (some people actually use a thermometer to measure the temperature of the water!) Stir well. Use a timer. All that stuff. Consistency depends on control of variables.
If you really want to get into it, you can actually roast your own coffee. I do that. You can buy a hot-air popcorn popper and roast 1/4 lb of beans at a time. Once you taste the freshness of home-roast, you’ll never be satisfied with less. 8^)

Best alternative milk for hot coffee?
Got Pomchi Asked: Best alternative milk for hot coffee?
I am trying out alternatives for my regular whole cow’s milk.I drink a LOT of coffee and really love it. I have an espresso maker and have at least 6 lattes a day. I don’t care about calories or nutritional content really, but wanted to try out living with less dairy to see if it made a difference since one of my friends has been raving about how different she feels after giving it up. I tried almond milk and the texture just didn’t work hot. It tastes great in iced coffee, but I usually heat lattes to almost boiling and it just got kind of…off. Thanks!

Which coffee maker makes the best tasting coffee?
flyfisher Asked: Which coffee maker makes the best tasting coffee?
My sister needs a new coffee maker, and I’m trying to help her find a good one. She wants it to make great tasting coffee. It should make 10-12 cups, she does like the single cup feature (but that’s not necessary). Another feature she likes is the ability to slow down the drip in order to save on coffee (like the old Krups ones did). Finally, she wants one with an insulated carafe. Thanks in advance for your input!!

Norma Answered:
No coffee maker makes the best coffee. It’s the coffee beans that makes the best coffee. You can buy a Krups at $549 or a Black and Decker at $19.99. The result is the same. The coffee pot heats water and pumps it into the ground coffee beans resting in the filter. If you have the guts, the best coffee is called Lone Ranger coffee. You boil water in a pot on the stove or a campfire and then add ground coffee to the water. Strain it into a cup. Now you are in control of the taste of your coffee. You can use ground coffee beans from any grower. Coffee is made to drink fresh and not out of an insulated carafe.

Dolce Gusto. You can get so many flavours and types of coffee, hot chocolates and all that jazz. If you add enough water to the back it should just about give you around 5 cups which I know isn’t that much but trust me, it’s sure worth it!

For a cheap coffee, Eight O’ Clock brand it not bad. The Dunkin’ Donuts brand is not too shabby. however, I would recommend trying them all. Experiment with different types of roast as well. It is all a preference.
Momma Cyn Answered:
What you need to do is try several types of coffee.I can’t stand dark roasted – always tastes as if they burnt the coffee beans (and I really hate Starbucks – shudder). I’m not great fan of Green Mountain (U.S.) either.
In the Pittsburgh area (PA), folks were offered different coffees and the winner was 8 O’Clock.I also like some flavored coffee from Folgers. But everybody’s taste is different, so buy some of the small sample size coffees and have fun testing them! (Oh, and BTW, I also avoid most of the coffees listed below. They are just not what I enjoy.

Craig B Answered:
It depends on how you’re brewing it and what your brewer’s specs are. Some brew hotter than others, which will affect how much acid is extracted from the coffee during brewing. Get scientific and try one-to-one and then two-to-one and then two-and-a-half to one, etc. until you have a cup you enjoy. then just use that same ratio every time.It may take you a day or two to compare, but it will be worth it.

I’ve come to realize there are two types of coffee-shop aficionados; the artsy type that likes live music, unique local art and a “cool” hangout, and the kind that just likes to go somewhere quiet for a little while. I’m definitely in the second category, and the national chains seem to really fit that bill better.
I don’t mind local shops though, there are actually a few in my area I like a lot. But I’ve noticed that local coffee houses that don’t support the local art “scene” don’t last long. Regardless though, the best coffee shops are the ones with friendly employees, a sustainable mentality, comfy couches, and plenty of outlets (for guitar amps or laptops, whichever you prefer 🙂
DDMQ Answered:
I prefer local cafes, really.
Starbucks and other coffee corporations are for the pretentious and annoying, I’d like to drink my coffee without having to hear about how horrible the government is or why religious people are idiots.
I prefer plain old coffee with some sugar and a little bit of milk in it. And the ideal environment would for me would be a medium colored area with many windows and perhaps a fireplace. And OLD jazz playing in the background.

What is the best coffee maker?
Michal Khalid Asked: What is the best coffee maker?
I want to buy one. Which brand or brands you prefer or suggest? Thanks.
Answers:
chocolahoma Answered:
A keurig machine makes a nice single cup of coffee, but the little pre-measured coffee pods are very expensive.
A press-style maker is fun to use.You simply put coffee grounds at the bottom, pour in hot water and use the plunger thing to press the grounds to the bottom before pouring your drink. If you don’t serve all at once, though, the remaining coffee at the bottom can get quite strong.
All kinds of drip coffee makers are cheap and available everywhere and make a reliable drink.
An espresso machine is expensive, but is essential if you want Starbucks-style mochas and cappuccinos.
fyerfyter2001 Answered:
Get a press pot, aka French press. Makes the best flavored coffee and is just as quick overall as using any other maker.Buy your beans whole and grind them just prior to making the coffee.
You’ll never go back to any other method. The only thing that can compare for flavor extraction is espresso.
